As it is lovely weather we have been to Greenwich and visited the “Cutty Sark”, the Royal Naval College, the Maritime Museum and the Royal Observatory. An interesting visit and lovely parks surrounding the individual sites all next to the river Thames.
We went to see “Under The Greenwood Tree” today which is a delightful film. In this lighthearted romance from Victorian novelist Thomas Hardy, the beautiful new village school teacher is pursued by three suitors: a working-class man, a landowner, and the vicar. In the end it is the heart that prevails.
We went to the Fitzwilliam Museum today to see the “Feast and Fast” exhibition. A wonderful show of food in art and paintings over the last 400 years.
When walking back over Kings Parade we see a lovely picture by Laura Jordan and decide to treat ourselves and buy it
We are having a small party tonight (11 people) and each one is bringing a dish. We spent the evening talking, drinking and playing games and are surprised that it is already close to midnight. We wish all our friends and family a very happy, healthy and prosperous New Year.
All good things seem to come to an end and we are flying back to UK today. Rather cloudy and fortunately it cleared up enough for the flight to land and depart pretty much on time.
After a light breakfast we are picked up by James and Liesa and we are driven to Seefeld. After we park the car we take the funicular to the top of the Rosshutte ski resort. We spend a couple of hours admiring the skills of all the skiers zooming down the hill. We then go down to the Christmas market in Seefeld and have some lunch.
After having recovered from the previous evening we have a light breakfast and are picked up by James and Liesa who drive us to Achensee where we had coffee. We then drive on to Sixenhof Museum where we see a “live” telling of the Christmas story with donkey, ox and sheep. When we come back outside it is snowing on Christmas day.
We have settled into our apartment and after breakfast we have a look round in Innsbruck. While there is no snow in the city , the mountains around Innsbruck are white.
We meet James and Liesa and visit a museum with local arts and crafts. We are then collected later by James and meet Liesa’s parents Karl and Silvia for the first time in their hut. They could not have been more hospitable and have laid on a wonderful spread of food and drinks. While we have tried to make a large dent into all this we are defeated by 1am and go back to our apartment stuffed and well inebriated.
Not much to tell apart from us flying to Innsbruck with Easyjet from Tegel. A rather grey and cloudy day in Innsbruck where James is awaiting us. Starting to rain and always amazed how pilots can land in such bad visibility.
Another glorious day with sunshine so we walk into the centre of Berlin. We visit several of the main tourist attractions including “The Reichstag“, “The Brandenburg Gate” and climb to the top of the Cathedral which provides a great view of the Berlin Skyline.
