Been invited to dinner at Beccy’s in Needingworth. As we are giving some of our friends a lift it means no (or very little) alcohol tonight. A wonderful evening to be had with friends and amazing food. Starter with smoked salmon and prawns, main course of daube of beef and cheesecake for dessert. Didn’t have much space left for the cheese that followed. A thoroughly enjoyable evening.
To be able to fly for a further year I will need to have a Class 2 Medical so saw my AME (Aviation Medical Examiner) today and after prodding and poking, checking eyes and ears, height, weight and blood pressure he deemed me to medically fit to fly for a further year. A sigh of relief.
We accepted an invitation to the Haslingfield Tennis club annual ball at Barrington Hall. This was held in a large marque at the back of the ball and included a sit down meal (very tasty) and there was also a band and dance floor. We danced the night away and even had a photo opportunity with Roger.
We went to the Comberton Bowls Club annual quiz fund raiser with a group of our friends. A very entertaining evening with some challenging questions. Any of 5 teams could win going into the final round. We came out victorious but only by 0.5 point which shows how close it was. 4 teams were within 2 points and appreciated the wine and chocolates we won.
I have another Wingly flight today. This time it is Richard and his son Joseph who is having a birthday treat. I let him fly most of the way to Wyton and then back to Fowlmere. Judging by the smile on his fave he has enjoyed himself. Pity that the flight was only for 40 minutes as I suspect he would have liked to continue to fly.
It is our wedding anniversary today so we will be celebrating today at Restaurant “22”. A lovely place which has raised the bar again since it was taken over in March this year. A memorable evening with thoroughly enjoyable food which we hope to repeat again shortly.
Another glorious day and this time we decide to fly north towards Cromer and land at Northrepps. A much smaller airfield with a rather short(ish) runway. After paying our landing fees we call a taxi and while waiting we have a coffee. A short ride to Cromer find us near (another) pier. We have a look on the pier and a stroll along the beach. We buy baguettes with Cromer crab which we eat on a bench near the sea. We then walk along the beach to West Runton where we meet Val and Dave. They take us to a lovely place near the sea where we had cream teas. They dropped us off at the airfield (nobody there!) and got back home after a 60 min flight.
An absolutely glorious day today so we are flying to the south coasts and landing at Shoreham aerodrome. It has now been renamed “Brighton City”. A short flight of 1hr and 10mins and we land. Pay our landing fees and have a coffee in the Art-Deco restaurant. A short walk and we are on the beach where we take a very leisurely stroll towards Worthing. We stop along the way and have a filling lunch at “The Perch” in Lancing. We continue our walk along the beach and after 2 miles I realise I left my jacket behind. We decide to take the bus back to Lancing and fortunately my jacket is still there. We then take the bus back to Worthing and have a walk along the pier followed by icecreams. It is getting late in the day and need to go back to Shoreham. A 80 mins flight back to Fowlmere concludes the day.
