Stefan had another very big surprise for us today. Again a mystery trip and this time in his car to cinema close the the Feyenoord football stadium. He had arranged for us to see Jumanji 4DX. Welcome to the Jungle, the tables are turned as four teenagers in detention are sucked into the world of Jumanji. When they discover an old video game console with a game they’ve never heard of, they are immediately thrust into the game’s jungle setting, into the bodies of their avatars, played by Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, Kevin Hart, and Karen Gillan. What they discover is that you don’t just play Jumanji –Jumanji plays you. They’ll have to go on the most dangerous adventure of their lives, or they’ll be stuck in the game forever.
As to the experience in 4DX: Providing a revolutionary cinematic experience which stimulates all five senses, the 4DX includes high-tech motion seats and special effects including wind, fog, lightning, bubbles, water, rain and scents. These effects work in perfect synchronicity with the action on screen – creating the most unmissable and exhilarating cinematic experience yet.
Took the Euro-tunnel for a short break to Holland over Christmas. Arrived in Rotterdam mid afternoon. Stefan had organised a surprise for us so we had to be there for 7pm. When the time arrived he arranged a taxi to take us to the doctor. Located in an atmospheric townhouse, a one-time home to prostitutes and sailors and other ne’er do wells, and set in Rotterdam’s formerly notorious Scheepwartkwartier district, The Doctor is something of a cocktail specialist – one with an exquisite bedside manner. Knock on the door and ask for a patient number. Inside you’ll find a dimly lit doctor’s office, where the very best medication is available to those in need of healing: the drinks are beautifully executed, complex and layered creations. The atmosphere is relaxed and the bartenders are very well experienced. The cocktails are exemplary and the Doctor is itinerant so be sure to make an appointment.
Had our annual Christmas dinner with friends from Hardwick in the Red Lion in Grantchester. As always a great atmosphere there and a very pleasant way to spend an evening with friends.
Went to London last night for James’ surprise 30th birthday party organised by Liesa. We all congregated at the Joker pub in Islington at 19:30 as James was to arrive at 8. He was a little late and arrived at 8:30ish and to his complete surprise was welcomed by some 50 people. He had a great time and reminisced with many friends he had not seen for some time. A wonderful cake in the shape of a BA aircraft and a video of many friends wishing him well were the highlights of a wonderful evening.
We left at 11:30 with the party still in full swing and we must thank Liesa on a job well done.
We went to see “Emma” at the ADC theatre yesterday evening. A lovely productions of a well know story by Jane Austen. It centres on the mischievous Emma Woodhouse who considers herself the matchmaker of Highbury. Pledging never to marry or fall in love herself but then falls for Mr Knightly.
