Went to see Afro Samba at the Cambridge University Botanic Garden yesterday. An interesting mix of Latin, Jazz and Bossa Nova which was very enjoyable. Unfortunately the weather was not as good as the music (it rained!) but we still had a good time.
We went to the Light Cinema in Cambridge to see the 30 years anniversary of his Johann Strauss Orchestra. Andre made a beautiful program this year featuring old and new friends and set against the stunning medieval backdrop of the Vrijthof square in his home town of Maastricht. A thoroughly entertaining evening with some beautiful music performed by his popular orchestra. And of course his special guest: David Hasselhoff!!!
Went to see “Dogfight” last night as the ADC Theatre. An award winning musical set in San Francisco in 1963. One final night of partying, debauchery and trouble awaits a group of young Marines in San Francisco on the eve of their deployment to Vietnam. But when Corporal Eddie Birdlace meets Rose, a shy and idealistic waitress, and uses her to win a cruel bet with his fellow recruits, he ends up learning an important lesson about life, compassion and the true nature of beauty. An enjoyable evening with good acting let down by some weak singing performances.
After the film we went to “La Maison du Steak” on 125 Hill Road and had an excellent dinner. One of Cambridge’s undiscovered gems as we have never had a disappointing meal there. Service can sometimes be a little slow as they can be fairly busy. One of the better places to eat a good steak in Cambridge.
Went to the cinema last night and saw “The Beguiled”. An enjoyable film set during the American civil war where a group of women at a girls’ school take in and care for an injured union soldier. Soon, sexual tensions lead to dangerous rivalries as the women tend to his wounded leg while offering him comfort and companionship. Colin Farrell, Nicole Kidman and Kirsten Dunst star. It is a remake of the 1971 Clint Eastwood film.
We went punting on Sunday morning when the weather was beautiful and the river Cam very quiet. We punted from the Mill Pond to Jesus lock’s. Took us about an hour but you can see that there were very few on the river.
Went to see “CURTAINS” at the ADC theatre last nights. A musical comedy whodunit set in a theatre in Boston. The lead actress is murdered on stage and the whole cast is a suspect. A thoroughly enjoyable performance from the Cambridge youth musical theatre company with some outstanding performances. » Read more
Damage was a lot more extensive than initially thought and they cannot repair in Fowlmere. Hence they will need to remove the wings, propeller and engine. Then move to another company and replace the whole tail section. And then put is all back together again.
