We had dinner at Restaurant “22” in Cambridge tonight and were treated to an excellent culinary extravaganza. We all enjoyed the 7 course taster menu and could not fault either the food, the presentation or the service.
All washed down with some red and white wine, we all went home full and contented.
Another weekend coming up and this time is is a visit to “The Blind Fiddler” in Anstey. We have read many good reviews about this pub, Tucked away in deepest Hertfordshire we arrived at 8pm on a dark, wet and windy evening and were greeted by open fire and reasonable busy pub. We ordered the meat platter from the smoker which was a delight to eat. Succulent meat and huge portion. We certainly will come back here in the future.
We have been invited to celebrate Sandra’s birthday with some other friends and meet at the Red House in Longstowe. We did not have a great experience the last time we were there but the new owners have spent a lot of money on the interior and the menu. We could not fault the service or the food and had an excellent evening.
We are going to a formal dinner at Corpus Christi college in Cambridge which means we dress to impress. After a champagne reception we have a excellent 3 course dinner. The after dinner speeches were a bit too long but we all enjoyed ourselves.
We cycle to the Hare and Hounds this evening and enjoy the Caribbean Evening. We are welcomed by Mojitos and enjoy these so much we have some more. We then order the Caribbean platter which is a delightful meal comprising Coconut rice, kebabs, bean stew, patties and a small salad. We then enjoy a game of sequence which was brought along by John.
We have been invited for a buffet lunch at Madingley Hall to celebrate Anne and Jeff’s Ruby wedding anniversary. A great occasion and a good lunch accompanied by many friends we had not seen fro some time.
It is a very nice evening so we decide to fly to “The Pheasant” in Keyston for dinner (as you do). Only a short flight of 25 minutes and land at 18:20 almost next to the pub where we have a delightful dinner. We fly back and get back to Fowlmere at 9pm.
We are visiting the Chilford Hall vineyards today with a view to learn more about UK wine production, to sample some wines and to have a cream tea afterwards. The weather is pleasant enough and when we arrive we have a chat with other people in the cafe. We then have a 20 min gentle stroll to the vineyard where we are told most of the ins and outs of wine production.
We then have a walk through the barns where the grapes a pressed, fermented and bottled.
We then have a wine tasting session where we are presented with 5 white wines. Some are better than others and decide to buy a bottle for a special occasion.
We finish with a cream tea which included sandwiches, scones and petit fours. An enjoyable afternoon.
