We are going to the annual quiz in Hardwick. We won this 3 years ago so have a reputation to uphold which is not easy as there are 20 teams. We have a team of 6 and play our joker on the first round and score 9/10 which gives us 36 points. We remain in the lead for the whole evening and win the first prize (6 bottles of wine) and add our name to the winning shield once more. Have to come back next year to defend out title.
We are off to the three horseshoes pub in Stapleford for the monthly quiz. We thought the quiz would start at 19:30 but did not actually start until close to 9pm. Not an easy quiz (who was the youngest man to walk the moon for example) and we come 3rd out of 7 teams. So not a complete disgrace!
We have been invited by some of our friends to a quiz evening in Steeple Morden primary school. An enjoyable evening and at some stage we were even leading the quiz. However our lack of knowledge of TV Quiz Hosts let us down badly as we only scored 1 our of 20 points. This made is drop down the leader board but still finished a very respectable 4th out of 19 teams.
Another weekend and another quiz. This time it is the Haslingfield tennis club who are hosting in the Little Rose pub. There are only 6 teams but competition is fierce. After a hard fought contest we end up finishing second (we must brush up on our non-existent music knowledge) and win £20 (which was our entrance contribution) so this was an inexpensive evening.
Another evening and another quiz. This time it is the Comberton Bowls club which are hosting in their village hall. We manage to get a team of 6 people and again we were treated to a ploughman’s supper. There was nothing to choose between the top 3 teams when going into the last round. We managed to answer 9 questions right which meant we won the quiz by 0.5 point with third team a further 0.5 behind. Won a bottle of wine and box of chocolates for our effort.
We went to the Comberton Bowls Club annual quiz fund raiser with a group of our friends. A very entertaining evening with some challenging questions. Any of 5 teams could win going into the final round. We came out victorious but only by 0.5 point which shows how close it was. 4 teams were within 2 points and appreciated the wine and chocolates we won.
We met up with a group of friends and enjoyed the Coton bowls club annual quiz in Coton village hall. This was a very well organised quiz with lovely Chilli-con-carne and apple tart for pudding. To our very surprise we were informed that we had actually won the quiz and were given a chocolate egg each as a reward. Not a bad way to spend your Saturday evening.
After having started some 7 years ago, I now have reached the milestone of 100th quiz at the Hare and Hounds on Sunday evening. To commemorate the event there will be 100 questions instead of the usual 50. This will include the challenging Dutch questions, a music round and two picture rounds. Here is the quiz100_Dingbats and here are the dingbats_answers for all who could not make it.
